We might get a "scientific" answer on "how" things happen....
But we will never learn "why"

Ooh!
Chaser, if quantum physics blows your mind, I highly suggest looking up it's successor, string theory. Hearing scientists talk somewhat practically about about 13 dimensions and time travel is both creepy and fascinating. As someone else said, PBS produced the Nova episodes based on the book The Elegant Universe. It's a 3 dvd set. Very easily explained & very good.
For what it's worth, I really enjoyed what the bleep do we know. I don't take all of it as fact, but it's nice to hear other people's opinions on who we are and how we got here.
I really enjoyed it also. never heard of the string theory, but I'll have to check it out. great stuff...sssssssssoooooo deep!
I just love wikipedia!!!
String theory
